ICT & Business

ICT at Weavers has been developed to recognise learners’ skills, knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology functions, environments and operations.

Information and Communication Technology is concerned with developing the students’ ability to understand the modern world and to be able to communicate ideas and handle information effectively. The students learn to use a variety of software packages and should be capable, by the end of the Key Stage, of working independently with a computer to gain access to, manipulate and interrogate information and present their findings in a format suitable for use and audience.

OCR Nationals in ICT

Throughout Year 10 and 11 the students carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognise their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace. The units include Understanding computer Systems, Using ICT to create Business Solutions, Creating Digital Images and Creating Dynamic Products using Sound and Vision. Each unit is graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction and students are working towards a GCSE equivalent.

The units consists of 4 tasks:

• Understand how ICT can be used to meet business needs
• Know how to work with information and data to meet specified business needs
• Know how ICT can be used to support business working practices
• Understand how legal, ethical, safety and security issues affect how computers should be used

• Be able to use techniques to search for, store and share information
• Be able to select and use software to handle data
• Be able to select and use software to communicate information for a business purpose
• Be able to use software tools to format information

• Be able to create interactive products containing multimedia components

At Weavers OCR Level 3 Technical in ICT offers an exciting opportunity to explore the world of new technologies and how they are used in different context from day to day life to the world of work. This course helps students to understand with an insight into the IT sector as they investigate technological changes and the flow of information on a global scale. The range of units delivered assist in the development of transferrable skills required by Higher Education institutions.

OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in IT 

For this qualification, students must achieve five units consisting of three mandatory units and two optional units.

Mandatory Units

Unit 1 – Fundamentals of IT

Unit 2 – Global Information

Unit 3 – Cyber Security

The OCR Technical Level 3 is a high quality, modern qualification aimed at providing the students with specific knowledge and practical skills to prepare them for higher education or employment. Being underpinned academically, it has a strong vocational inclination which is ideal for ICT

There are three levels of achievements: Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma. Students must complete four mandatory units and two, eight or fourteen optional units respectively. Each unit is graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

KS4 - Business

Business Studies at Weavers Academy involves a range of skills, both quantitative and qualitative, and complements virtually any other GCSE and A level course. Business Studies represents an excellent choice for students who are seeking breadth without venturing into wholly unfamiliar territory.

For those planning university studies, it encourages skills useful for any course. For those planning a career in business, or one where business techniques will be useful, it provides opportunities for developing practical skills, as well as an overview of business theory and issues.

For anyone, it encourages an interest in the world outside school and provides some excellent life skills in basic financial understanding.

Year 10 (Year 1 of 2)

OCR Nationals in Business and Enterprise

This course is designed to help students understand the importance of business skills required for successful future employment and career. These skills are highly desirable in business world and can be transferred easily for future studies. Students will study 3 units including Introduction to Business, Planning for work and Setting up and running an enterprise. Each unit is graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction and students are working towards a GCSE equivalent.

Unit R062: Planning for work

• Be able to assess the requirements of job roles
• Be able to take part in the recruitment process as an applicant
• Be able to plan for a career

Unit R063: Setting up and running an enterprise

50% of the total qualification

Internally assessed

This unit contains five topics:

• Be able to select viable enterprise activities
• Be able to plan enterprise activities
• Be able to implement enterprise activity plans
• Be able to contribute to the running of enterprise activities
• Be able to review the success of enterprise activities.

KS5 - Business

Having a good idea about how businesses work will put you at an advantage in your future career plans. OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Level 3 in Business is an excellent preparation for the world of work and for a wide range of University degree courses. This course is aimed at anyone who wishes to develop an understanding of business operations, this course will help you to appreciate how and why business decisions are made and how they affect a variety of people both within the business and externally.

OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Business

For this qualification, students must achieve five units consisting of three mandatory units and two optional units.

The OCR Technical Level 3 is a high quality, modern qualification aimed at providing the students with specific knowledge and practical skills to prepare them for higher education or employment. This qualification provide opportunities to develop skills required by today’s business environment and enables students to prepare for future learning or training. The course consists of being assessed through coursework.

There are three levels of achievements: Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma. Students must complete four mandatory units and two, eight or fourteen optional units respectively. Each unit is graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
